Sacchi's Calf was a 4-day-old male Japanese killer whale who lived at Enoshima Marineland. He was born there on April 27th, 1982. His mother was Sacchi and his father was a wild Japanese killer whale. The calf passed away due to a brain abscess on May 1st, 1982 at Enoshima Marineland.
Life[]
The calf's mother, Sacchi, was captured off the coast of Taiji on February 12th, 1982, and was transferred to Enoshima Marineland on March 30th of that year. Sacchi was already pregnant at the time of her capture. On April 27th, she went into labor, twisting her body and slapping her tail against the surface of the water. She gave birth to her calf, the first orca calf to be born in captivity in Japan. [1]

The calf died on May 1st, 1982, after surviving for 83 hours. [1] The cause of death was a brain abscess.
