Sarah (pronounced SAA-rah) was a 2-year-old female Icelandic killer whale who lived at Kamogawa Sea World. She was born there on May 31st, 2003. Her mother was Stella and her father was Bingo. Sarah passed away on April 26th, 2006 at Kamogawa Sea World.
Birth & Early Life[]
On May 31st, 2003, Stella gave birth to her third calf at Kamogawa Sea World. The calf was originally thought to be a male, but was later found to be a female. After a public vote, the winning name for the calf was Sarah. Sarah’s two older sisters, Lara and Lovey, were there to help raise her and assist Stella. She was also introduced to her father Bingo, and another male named Oscar.
Life at Kamogawa Sea World[]
At a few months old, Sarah was already appearing in shows and was able to achieve simple behaviors such as bows and slide-outs. She had a close bond with her mom and got along well with her siblings. However, in May 2005, Sarah became severely ill and had to be moved to the medical pool for treatment. She recovered three months later in August.
On February 25th, 2006, Stella gave birth to Sarah’s younger sister, Ran II. Around that time, Sarah fell ill for a second time and was once again moved to the medical pool for treatment.
Death[]
On April 26th, 2006, Sarah passed away just before her third birthday. It is unknown if her illness was the same as the one she had battled in 2005. Her cause of death was never announced to the public.
